Major explosion occurs in Saintala ordnance factory in Odisha’s Bolangir

Badmal: A major explosion occurred in Magazine No-12 of the Ordnance Factory located at Badmal under Saintala police limits in Bolangir district, today. The reason behind the massive blast has not been ascertained yet.

According to a private source, the inferno occurred in the evening at around 6.30 PM. No fatalities have been reported in the incident so far. As it was the weekend today, no employees were present in the area where the explosion occurred. However, two to three buildings were partially affected due to the explosion. Further information on damage is awaited.

Magazine No-12 is a major godown of the defence production unit in Saintala.

On being informed, two Fire Brigade vehicles were pressed into service. The flames were doused by the fire services personnel after striving for more than an hour, the source said.

Meanwhile, the Ordnance Factory chief general manager (safety) Pradeep Das has reached the spot.
