Man bites off his wife’s tongue in anger in Odisha’s Nayagarh, arrested

Nayagarh: A man, who is an accused in a previous case, today bit off a part of his wife’s tongue at a place under Nayagarh Town police limits in this district.

The accused was identified as Gadadhar Parida from Badagorada village under Sarankul police limits.

According to a source, Gadadhar had married the woman Ranjita from Ankuleipatana under Nayagarh block. He was lodged in jail in an illegal Ganja (cannabis) trading case in 2016. Both Ranjita and her father-in-law had spent money to release the former on bail.

After being released on bail, Gadadhar had been often attacking his wife over petty matters. Even though she informed this to her father-in-law, Gadadhar did not mend his ways. Upon the advice of her father-in-law, Ranjita had been staying at her parent’s house for the last several months.

Earlier in the day, Gadadhar went to Ankuleipatana and requested his wife to return to Badagorada village. Believing the words of the accused, Ranjita travelled with him by scooter. However, Gadadhar had a different plan and he stopped the two-wheeler at a place in Nayagarh town on their way back home. He attempted to strangulate Ranjita at an isolated place and bit off her tongue.

Gadadhar fled from the spot when some locals gathered after hearing Ranjita’s scream.

Acting on an FIR lodged by Ranjita, Town police registered a case (No-311/2023) in this connection and arrested Gadadhar. The accused was later forwarded to court.
