Minor girl raped, strangled to death in Odisha’s Rourkela; accused youth detained

Rourkela: A minor girl was allegedly raped by a local youth and then killed by strangulating her throat yesterday at Bedavyas-Marengapidhi locality of IDC Rourkela in Sundargarh district. A police team today detained the youth in this connection and launched a detailed probe into the allegation.

The minor rape survivor has been identified as a resident of Lahunipada locality in the district.

According to a police source, the victim girl had come to the house of a relative in Marengapidhi along with her family for a visit. The accused youth lured the girl and took her to a secluded place where he forcibly outraged her modesty. Later, the minor narrated her plight after returning home.

The girl’s family with the help of her relatives lodged an FIR at Brahmani Tarang police station.

Acting on the FIR, the police probe team picked up the local youth. “The accused is now being interrogated to gather more evidence to substantiate the allegation,” a senior cop of Brahmani Tarang PS said.
