Bhubaneswar: A probe team of Odisha Police’s Crime Branch (CB) sent today the preserved viscera of deceased Health Minister Naba Kishore Das to the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) in Bhubaneswar for chemical examination, who died in a gun attack on January 29 in Brajarajnagar of Jharsuguda.

Questioning of the accused Gopal Das (a former ASI) is underway on the second day of remand.

Following a lead given by the accused during interrogation about throwing a handwritten paper in which he had noted down in detail his motive behind the crime in the toilet of Jharsuguda Airport police station, the team of CID-CB is carrying out a search of the septic tank to verify the plea taken by him.

Some pieces of the handwritten paper as described by the accused cop have already been recovered. These pieces will be sent to forensic and handwriting experts for reconstruction and examination.

Inspection of the minister’s car and the crime spot by scientific officers and ballistic experts using FARO 3-D scanner has led to the recovery of one fired bullet, which is a valuable piece of evidence.

According to a police source, verification of the medical treatment records and financial behavior of the accused policeman is underway by the probe team led by DSP, CID-CB at Berhampur in Ganjam.

The team is also engaged in the examination of the near and dear ones of the accused to ascertain the plea advanced by him. Interrogation of the elder brother of the accused cop at Berhampur has been completed.

Notably, Crime Branch probe in connection with the CID-CB PS case (No-02, dated-29.01.2023) arising out of Brajarajnagar PS case (No-34, dated-29.01.2023 U/S 307 IPC/27(1) of Arms Act turned to Section 302/307 IPC/27(1) of the Arms Act is underway led by Additional DG (ADG) Arun Bothra.
