Odisha to vie for GI tag to Kendrapara district’s famous Rasabali

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Sanskruti O Parampara Punaruddhara Samiti (a local outfit) raised a demand for a geographical indication (GI) tag to Kendrapara district’s famous Rasabali, today.

The demand was made on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan (Gamha Purnima), which is also observed as the birthday of Lord Baladevjew. The outfit said that this day be observed as Rasabali Divas.

“Cuisine delicacies of our State are beyond compare. It also has a rich tradition and culture. Henceforth, we will celebrate Gamha Purnima day as Rasabali Divas,” Samiti chief Jyotsnamayee Parida stated.

Attending a function organised here on this occasion, OTDC Chairman Lenin Mohanty said, “Odisha is India’s best-kept secret. So is Kendrapara in the State. We have got the GI tag for Rasagola. Similar efforts will be made for Rasabali too, which has originated in the district. The journey to obtain a GI tag for Rasabali begins today. MSME department has already made progress in this regard. Rasabali is our own as much as Rasagola is ours. The first organised effort for a tag has been made.”
