Two killed in Odisha’s Koraput as cave collapses while taking shelter

Koraput: In a tragic incident, two men were killed as a cave inside which they were taking shelter collapsed in Odisha’s Koraput district. The deceased were identified as Selum Dharua (50) and Trilochan Dharua (45) of Haladikunda village under Boipariguda block.

According to reports, the two used to go to a forest near Gupteswar along Saberi river for collecting forest products to sell them. On Tuesday, the duo had gone to the forest for the same purpose. Due to heavy rainfall, they were unable to return home from the forest and decided to take shelter at a nearby cave.

While the two were sleeping there, a large chunk of soil collapsed from the upper portion of the cave and fell on them. They were crushed to death on the spot.

On Wednesday morning, some locals spotted footprints near the cave. Later, the two bodies were found buried under the debris.

On being informed, police reached the place, recovered the bodies for post-mortem and started an investigation.

The bodies were today handed over to the family members of the deceased.
