Woman found dead in her house after 14 days in Odisha’s Bhadrak; murder suspected

Tihidi: The body of a woman with injury marks on it was spotted today under mysterious circumstances in her rented house at New Kalyani Colony in Apartibinda under Town police limits in Bhadrak district.

The deceased woman was identified as Madhumita Nayak, the wife of Maheswar Nayak. She belonged to Golapokhari locality under Tihidi police limits of the district.

According to a police source, Madhumita had been staying alone in the rented house for the last few months as her husband works outside the State. The house of Madhumita was broken open in the presence of local Magistrate and police and she was found dead inside the closed house.

Maheswar was contacting his wife over her mobile phone, but the woman had not been responding to the phone calls since nearly the last two weeks. The man suspected something foul in it and reached the town from his workplace earlier in the day. He later lodged an FIR with police.

Acting on the FIR, Town police reached the spot and broke open the house. A dog squad was pressed into service. Police seized the body and launched a probe into the woman’s suspicious death, which is underway. Police have sent the body to a hospital for post-mortem and a report is awaited.
