‘Wrong injections’ by medical shop owner kill 6-year-old boy in Odisha’s Jajpur

Bhubaneswar: A six-year-old boy, suffering from fever, died after he was allegedly administered injections by the medical shop owner without doctor’s prescription in Jajpur district of Odisha today.

The deceased boy’s family lodged a complaint in this regard with Dasharathpur police. The boy was killed due to the wrong injections administered by the medical shop owner, said the complaint.

According to sources, Omm Mallick, son of Surendra Mallick of Mugupada village under Dasharathpur police limits, was suffering from fever for last couple of days.

Surendra today took Omm to the medical shop of one Mitu Pati at Mandarkhand Square in the locality and requested the latter to provide some medicines for the ailing boy. Pati reportedly administered two injections to the boy instead of providing any medicine, sources said.

Omm reportedly fell unconscious soon after he was administered the injections. The boy was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), where doctors declared him dead on arrival, sources added.

On being informed, Jajpur Town police reached the DHH and seized the body.

The medical store owner absconded soon after the boy’s death, said police.
