64 school students test COVID positive in Odisha’s Rayagada

Rayagada: Amidst fears of COVID-19 fourth wave, as many as 64 students in Odisha’s Rayagada district have tested positive for the virus.

Reportedly, RT-PCR test of 257 inmates of a hostel named ‘Anwesha’ in Kotlaguda area of Rayagada was conducted by the Health Department on May 4. Of the 257 students, reports of 44 have come out positive. All the infectees were asymptomatic. However, condition of all of them is stated to be stable.

All the infected students have been kept under isolation. The hostel authorities have taken all precautionary measures to prevent further spread of the virus, said hostel Matron Namita Samal.

On receiving information, the District Welfare Officer (DEO) visited the hostel to take stock. Sources said the hostel houses students of eight English medium schools in the district.

Similarly, 20 students of of Hatamuniguda Government High School in Bisamkatak  block in the district have contracted the virus.
