COVID-19: Community gathering banned during Raja festival in Odisha Capital

Bhubaneswar: Amid the rising cases of COVID-19, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today banned outdoor activities such as community gathering and playing of ‘Raja doli’ and cards during the Raja festival.

The BMC said in an order all kinds of outdoor activities like Raja Doli, Bagudi and card playing due to the festival are prohibited in the interest of containment of the spread of COVID-19 disease.

While issuing instructions for the shop and business establishments, the BMC said they will ensure strict maintenance of social distancing among customers.

In case it is found that the social distancing is not being maintained, steps will be taken for sealing of shops. Suspension of trade license and in extreme cases permanent cancellation of trade license will be undertaken after observing due procedure of law, the order said.

The BMC asked shop/business establishment owners not to entertain any customers who are not wearing masks/face covers.

It further stated public if found not wearing masks and not adhering to social distancing guidelines, they will be fined as per the government guidelines.
