Body of elderly woman found in Indravati right canal in Odisha’s Kalahandi; murder suspected

Jaipatana: An elderly woman was found dead today while floating in the Indravati right canal in Mukhiguda under Jaipatana police limits of Kalahandi district, with her neck, hands and legs tied.

The deceased was identified as 80-year-old Hema Patel, who belonged to the Puruna Market locality of Mukhiguda village.

According to a police source, the octogenarian was spotted by some locals. She went missing three days ago but was found dead today. The elderly woman’s neck, hands and legs were tied together with the help of a rope. The locals immediately informed the police about it.

Jaipatana police reached the spot and recovered the body with the help of local fire services personnel and later sent it to a nearby hospital for post-mortem. Police have launched a probe.

“I suspect that the elderly woman has been murdered by somebody and later thrown in the canal. She was missing for the last three days,” the deceased’s son said.
