Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Crime Branch will investigate into the alleged murder of Chittaranjan Palei, personal security guard of BJD leader and deputy chairman of State Planning Board Sanjay Das Burma.

DGP Abhay today directed the agency to take over the investigation of the case, which has been registered by the Puri Sadar police.

Family members of the deceased had yesterday met Puri SP Kanwar Vishal Singh and demanded a Crime Branch probe into the matter.

Das Burma along with Chittaranjan’s father, uncle, brother and sister met the police official with a demand of stringent action against the accused. His kin alleged that he was killed over a money-related issue.

Das Burma also held discussion with the SP and urged the police official for proper investigation into the case.

However, Chittaranjan’s wife had alleged the involvement of Das Burma in the suspected murder.

Body of Chittaranjan was found floating in Nuanai river under Sadar Police limits in Puri district on December 13. A native of Sanabandhakera village under Brahmagiri police limits in Puri district, Chittaranjan went missing on December 10 night.

His family members lodged a complaint with police on December 11 stating that Chittaranjan had gone to attend a feast organised by one Jagannath Sarangi alias Jaga at Matiapada on the fateful night, but did not return home. They further alleged that a dispute was prevailing between Chittaranjan and Jaga.

The body bore several injury marks, for which his kin alleged that it was a case of murder.
