Odisha: Repair of Natamandap in Puri Jagannath temple to begin tomorrow

Puri: The Archeological Survey of India (ASI) will start the repair of Natamandap in Puri Jagannath temple from tomorrow. Preparations for the repair work are in place but could be affected in case there is any disturbance in the performance of daily rituals of the deities, an ASI official informed today.

A meeting of Chhatisa Nijog was held earlier in the day to decide on the smooth performance of daily rituals. Accordingly, the main gate of the sanctum sanctorum will be opened at 2.00 AM tonight. Repair of Natamandap will begin at around 1.00 PM the next day and will be completed by 7.00 PM.

Previously, stone pieces were put in place of the cracked upper part of Natamandap, and the structure was cleaned. Four stainless steel beams will be affixed to the stone structure this time. However, the design of it has already been finalised and approval accorded, the senior official of ASI expressed.

Differently-abled persons will have the opportunity to visit the Lords at least once a month.
