Odisha: Tata Power JE held for accepting Rs 30,000 bribe

Bhubaneswar: A Junior Engineer (JE) of Tata Power Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL) was arrested by the Odisha Vigilance while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a person today.

Ranjan Kumar Das, JE Bargaon Electrical Section of TPWODL in Sundargarh district, had sought the bribe from the person for facilitating his appointment as an electrical helper on outsourcing basis, said a Vigilance official.

A complaint in this regard was lodged with the Vigilance department. Following which, a trap was laid to catch the JE red-handed.

The JE was arrested while accepting the bribe and the entire bribe amount has been recovered from him, added the officer.

Following the arrest, simultaneous searches are being conducted at three locations linked to the TPWODL JE to unearth any disproportionate assets, said the officer.

Rourkela Vigilance police station has registered a case against the JE under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, he added.
