Odisha’s Bhitarkanika National Park to remain closed for tourists from Dec 26

Kendrapara: The Bhitarkanika National Park in Odisha’s Kendrapara district will remain closed for tourists from December 26 to January 4 for the annual census of crocodiles, a Forest official said.

“In view of the census of crocodiles, it has been decided that the Bhitarkanika National Park will be closed for tourists from December 26 to January 4. Tourists are advised not to plan their visits during the period,” said Bikash Ranjan Das, Forest Division Officer, Rajanagar.

Boating by tourists can disturb crocodiles which will subsequently affect the census process, for which entry to the national park has been prohibited, he said.

The census will be carried out in Dangamala, Rajanagar, Mahakalapada and Gahirmatha by teams of Forest Department, he added.
