OHPC proposes tariff hike in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Power tariff might go up in Odisha from next financial year, if a proposal submitted by Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) to Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) is accepted. The OHPC today proposed the OERC for seven paise hike of electricity tariff during a hearing of the petitions filed by different power distribution companies.

Citing increase in power generation costs, the OHPC suggested the OERC to hike electricity tariff from 88 paise per unit to 95 paise per unit.

The OERC today began its hearing on the petitions of the discoms for power tariff increase and the process will continue till February 14. The OERC will take a policy decision on the tariff in the third week of March on basis of the outcome of the State Advisory Committee meeting on February 26.

Currently domestic category consumers are paying Rs 2.50 per unit of electricity consumed whereas commercial consumers and industrial establishments are making payments of Rs 4.50 and Rs 6 per unit towards power tariff, respectively.
