State-wide truck strike in Odisha from January 11

Bhubaneswar: Opposing vehicle scrapping policy, Odisha Truck Owners’ Association called for state-wide strike from January 11.

The truck owners threatened to stop plying their vehicles from the midnight of January 11 for indefinite period over a five-point charter of demands including roll-back of the decision on scrapping the vehicles which are older than 15 years.

All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) has extended its support for strike, informed Odisha Truck Owners’ Association’s General Secretary Rabi Narayan Satapathy at a presser on Friday.

The association demanded the state government to raise the scrapping time of vehicles from 15 to 20 years.

All trucks in Odisha will go off the roads if the government fails to meet their demands by January 11. The trucks from other states can ply via Odisha but will not be allowed for transporting goods to the state. Around 2.15 lakh trucks will join the strike, he said.
