1-year-old sold in Bhubaneswar for Rs 50,000; buyer arrested

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police today arrested a man from Nayagarh district for allegedly adopting a one-year-old boy illegally in exchange of money.

Based on a complaint filed by the one-year-old boy’s mother at Nayapalli police station in Bhubaneswar, the Commissionerate Police arrested Srinibas Jena from Nayagarh for buying the child at Rs 50,000.

Following the arrest of Srinibas, the child was rescued by the police.

The child’s father, Tapan Palai who allegedly sold the one-year-old to Srinibas managed to escape.

A police official said a manhunt has been launched to nab the child’s father.
