2 injured in group clash during immersion ceremony in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: Two persons were reportedly injured in a clash between two groups during immersion ceremony in Odisha capital here today.

A clash ensued between two groups during the immersion procession of Rasulgarh Durga puja committee in the city here in the evening.

Two persons sustained injuries when they were attacked with sword by the members of the rival group during the clash, sources said.

The clash erupted between the two groups over previous enmity, sources added.

The locals, meanwhile, gheraoed Mancheswar police station protesting the alleged inaction on parts of the cops to check the incident.

The authorities, on the other hand, claimed that the immersion ceremony passed off without any major incident.

“The Dussehra tableaux along with the idols of at least 26 Puja committees were taken to the artificial ponds outside the city in colourful processions during immersion ceremony. The ceremony concluded by 10.30 pm. Thousands of people gathered along the Janpath from Vani Vihar Square to Rajmahal Square to witness the ceremony,” said an official.
