2 of marriage party dead, 1 more critically injured after car hits tree in Odisha’s Cuttack

Banki: Two persons were killed and one more sustained grievous injuries as the car in which they were travelling rammed into a tree on the roadside late last night near Ranasankha under Banki police limits in Cuttack district.

Identities of the two deceased persons and one injured have not been ascertained yet.

According to a police source, the trio was on their way from Athagarh locality to Mukundpur village in Banki to attend a Baraat (marriage procession) when they met with an accident. Driver of the ill-fated car (bearing registration number OR-02 BY-8558) lost control of the vehicle and hit the tree leading to the deaths on the spot.

The injured man was rescued by some locals and immediately admitted to a government-run health facility in Banki in critical condition for treatment. Later, the injured was shifted to SCB Hospital in Cuttack after his condition deteriorated. However, doctors at the health facility declared him ‘dead’.

On being informed, a team of Banki police reached the spot and seized the two bodies. Police have registered a case in this connection and launched a probe, which is underway.
