5 persons arrested for abducting, assaulting UP man in Odisha’s Koraput

Koraput: Police arrested five persons for allegedly abducting a man and assaulting him on extortion charge in Koraput district of Odisha. The victim, identified as Abdul Manna, belongs to Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh, was rescued from an under-construction tourist office building after a team led by Koraput SDPO under the direction of the SP, raided different places of the town on February 19 and managed to nab five of the accused while three others  are still at large. The arrested accused are Manoj Khosla, Pintu Khora, Anil Takri, Heena Parveen and Jan Mahammad.

As per official sources, Khosla was in Koraput jail in connection with a rape case during which he came in contact with one prisoner Javed of  Jeypore. After his bail, Khosla used to visit Javed and do his works. During one of his visits, he approached Javed regarding kidnapping of a relative of a fellow prisoner Mujasim. Javed complied and hoodwinked Mujasim into believing that he would help release him by finding a good advocate. Javed also asked his sister Seikh Salina who called up Mujasim’s family and asked them to come over for his bail following which the latter sent victim Abdul to Jeypore. After reaching on February 15, he stayed with Seikh for two days. On 17th, as per the plan, Seikh and sister Heena Parvin took Abdul to Koraput in a car sent by accused Khosla. When they were midway, Khosla and Khora halted the car and took Abdul hostage by bindfolding him. Then the duo took him to the under construction building where they reportedly assaulted and tortured him without food and water and demanded Rs 25 lakh ransom. They also took his ATM card and allegedly withdrew Rs 30,000.

As police got information, a team was formed and raid conducted leading to the victim’s rescue. Addressing mediapersons, police informed that two persons have been arrested. “The security guard, the car driver and another woman accused are on the run and will be nabbed soon. The ATM card, mobile phone, SIM cards and vehicle of the accused have been seized. Investigation is underway,” they said.
