5,000 lightning strikes within 30 minutes near Odisha’s Basudevpur; five killed

Bhubaneswar: At least five persons were reportedly killed in separate incidents of lightning strike in Basudevpur area of Bhadrak district in Odisha today.

Basudevpur area of Bhadrak district witnessed as many as 5,000 lightning strikes within just 30 minutes today, said Umasankar Das of IMD regional centre here.

“More than 5,000 lightning strikes today just in 30 minutes near Basudevpur of Bhadrak, its beyond your imagination the vulnerability associated with the thundercloud and how fatal it could be!!!,” said Das in a twitter post.

“As per local source, unfortunately 5 people died because of this severe lightning event,” he said in another twitter post.

Earlier, the IMD had issued Yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning for one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Khurda, Puri, Ganjam, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Kandhamal on March 29 (today).
