Anganwadi worker from Puri found dead in hotel room in Odisha’s Berhampur

Golanthara: A young woman was found dead late last night under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room near Haladiapadar under Golanthara police limits on the outskirts of Berhampur in Ganjam district.

The 26-year-old deceased woman was identified as Baishali Pande, the daughter of Satyaprakash Pande from Chandanpur locality of Puri district. She was an Anganwadi worker in the district.

Golanthara police have detained Baishali’s male friend identified as Sanket Senapati from Rayagada district in this connection. Sanket is being interrogated by a probe team.

According to a police source, Sanket works as a salesman in a reputed tyre manufacturing company’s office in Bhubaneswar. Baishali and Sanket knew each other through Facebook around a year ago. Gradually, the duo became familiar to each other. Yesterday was the birthday of Sanket.

Baishali left her house yesterday informing her family that she was going to Puri. Instead, the couple came to Gopalpur in Ganjam district on a visit and stayed in a hotel at night. Baishali reportedly became sick at around 10.00 pm and was taken to MKCG Hospital by Sanket in his car.

However, doctors at the government-run health facility declared the young woman dead’.

Police sent the body of Baishali to MKCG Hospital in Berhampur for post-mortem and have collected her viscera. “The exact reason behind the death of Baishali can be ascertained only after a post-mortem report comes in,” a senior cop said.

Baishali’s family was informed about this by police and the family reached Berhampur to see her dead. The family has alleged that the woman was raped and murdered by Sanket.
