ATM marauders nabbed during loot bid in Odisha’s Kandhamal; probe on

Phulbani: A youth was caught red-handed along with his accomplice while they were looting an ATM by breaking open a kiosk of the State Bank of India (SBI) in Phulbani town and under this police limit of Kandhamal district, in the wee hours of today.

The key accused was identified as Rajendra Chand. Presently, he works in a health centre in Phulbani town as a vaccine manager. Identity of the aide of Rajendra has not been ascertained yet.

According to a police source, the miscreant duo was attempting to loot the ATM located in front of a women’s college in Phulbani town and decamp with the money kept in it. However, the bid was foiled due to the alertness of police, who were passing through the route on a routine patrol.

Town police nabbed the two accused and initiated a probe into the loot bid. Police have recovered and later seized a hand saw blade, a hammer, a knife and a crowbar including several other incriminating instruments from their possession.

“A detailed probe is underway and we are verifying criminal antecedents of the arrested. We are also trying to ascertain if any other person is involved in the crime,” a senior cop stated.
