BCCI bans Odisha cricketer Sumit Sharma over age fraud

Cuttack: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has banned Odisha cricketer Sumit Sharma for two years over alleged age fraud.

Sumit was a part of the Odisha Ranji Team. The development comes as a jolt to Team Odisha as they are starting their Ranji campaign against Baroda at the Moti Bagh Stadium in Vadodara from today.

The board reportedly found discrepancies in the age of the cricketer from documents furnished by him previously and documents submitted for the Ranji team.

Tarini Sa has been announced as Sumit’s replacement in the team.

“Sumit Sharma, a player of Odisha Senior Men Team, has been disqualified by BCCI to play in BCCI Domestic Tournaments for 2 years as he has produced multiple age certificates i.e. the certificates produced by him when he played Junior Level in the year 2015-16 doesn’t match the ones he produced for the current season,” said Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) Secretary Sanjay Behera in a statement.
