BJD ZP member tries to influence voters at polling booth in Ghasipura constituency

Keonjhar: A BJD Zilla Parishad member allegedly tried to influence voters at a polling booth located at Sarupata under Ghatagaon block in Ghasipura constituency of Odisha’s Keonjhar district during the third phase of twin polls in the state, today.

As per reports, the incident took place at booth number 38, where local Zilla Parishad member Jagnyaseni Mohanty attempted to influence the voters standing in queue to cast their votes. She was present inside the booth for more than one hour, violating the norms of the Election Commission.

After the matter was reported by news channels, a police team reached the place while the Zilla Parishad member was seen coming out of the booth.

In another incident of poll-related irregularity in the constituency at booth no. 63 in Badamasanibirla village under Ghatagaon block, it was alleged that votes were being polled in the favour of a particular party during mock poll irrespective of voting to any candidate.

Tension ran high at the booth over the incident. Later, police reached the place and took the situation under control. Voting process commenced peacefully at the booth after the glitch was resolved.

The State Chief Electoral Officer said the Keonjhar Collector was directed to keep a watch on the situation.
