BJP will form govt in Odisha if it fights alone: Amit Shah

Bhubaneswar: At a time when there is no clear picture regarding the possibility of an alliance between the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Odisha, Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah today said the saffron party will form government in the state if it fights the upcoming assembly elections on its own without any coalition.

Shah was speaking at News 18’s Rising Bharat Summit.

On being asked if the BJP and the BJD will come together, Shah said, “We are yet to decide on that. The BJP President will take a decision in this regard. But it is certain that we will make massive gains in Odisha. If we fight alone, we will form government in the state.”

He further said that the BJD has been extending issue-based support to the BJP in the Parliament in the interest of the nation. This is the beauty of democracy, he said.

Speaking at the same event, Odisha 5T Chairman and BJD leader VK Pandian had yesterday said the regional party doesn’t need BJP to form government in the state. However, Pandian also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said the BJP may not need BJD to form government in Centre.

“Narendra Modi and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik are two great leaders wanting to come together for a greater cause. It has nothing to do with politics. That’s how I see it,” he had said on being asked about the status of the possible alliance.
