Deep Depression forms over Bay of Bengal; check landfall area

Bhubaneswar: The depression over westcentral Bay of Bengal intensified into a deep depression, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today.

The system may intensify further and cross Bangladesh coast between Mongla and Khepupara around morning of 18th November, the agency said.

“The Depression over Westcentral Bay of Bengal intensified into a Deep Depression. It is likely to move north-northeastwards, intensify further and cross Bangladesh coast between Mongla and Khepupara with wind speed 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph around morning of 18th November,” the IMD said in its bulletin.

The Regional Meteorological Centre here has issued rainfall warning for several districts of Odisha for today and tomorrow in connection with the system.

Nov 16: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Puri and Cuttack (Yellow Warning).

Nov 17: Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore and Bhadrak (Orange Warning).

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapara, Mayurbhanj and Jajpur (Yellow Warning).
