Puri: A woman foreign tourist was detained for allegedly entering the Jagannath Temple in Puri today.

A servitor spotted the foreign tourist near Baishipahacha and informed the police.

The foreign national was detained at the Singhadwar Police Station following the report. The police are verifying the identity, VISA and Passport of the tourist.

A few days ago, nine Bangladeshi nationals were detained by police for illegally entering the 12th-century temple in Puri. The foreigners reportedly admitted that they were unaware of the temple guidelines that non-Hindus were not allowed inside the temple.

During the police verification, it was found that one of them was a Hindu. The preliminary investigation suggested that four people among them had entered the temple violating the norms under the Shree Jagannath Temple Act, 1955.
