From Absenteeism to Employment Opportunities: How Odisha’s Startup ‘Hire An Hour’ is creating franchise opportunity

Bhubaneswar: Sanjay Patra, an ambitious entrepreneur from Bhubaneswar, had always been passionate about solving real-world problems. After completing his engineering and gaining work experience in various countries, he returned to his hometown with a dream of addressing the prevalent issue of absenteeism of maids in residential and commercial Sectors.

Sanjay noticed that people would panic when their regular maid didn’t turn up and he realized that this was a problem faced by many others as well. This prompted him to take matters into his own hands and find a solution. He recruited maids after proper background verifications and trained them to work efficiently. To his surprise, people were willing to pay these trained maids better than the average rate. With time, Sanjay expanded his vision and created an application-based online marketplace with a trademark name ‘Hire An Hour’.

The platform allowed people to search and book maids, cooks, attendants, drivers, etc. near them. The candidates were paid on an hourly basis, and the model proved to be a hit. It was a tough journey. But Sanjay was determined and took on each challenge one by one.

In 2022, ‘Hire An Hour’ was recognized as one of the best 25 startups out of 3000 startups in the prestigious ‘Innopreneurs-2022 Contest’. He is now establishing hub franchises all around Bhubaneswar and Cuttack cities, where interested entrepreneurs are getting a chance to build their own business by hiring and onboarding workers. By 2024, Sanjay is expecting to expand the platform to other cities in India.
Sanjay is determined to make ‘Hire An Hour’ a household name in India, and create a positive impact on the lives of both workers, franchise  and customers alike.
