Ganja worth Rs 10 lakh seized in Bhubaneswar while being smuggled to Kolkata; 3 held

Bhubaneswar: Busting an inter-state ganja smuggling racket, the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch today seized cannabis worth around Rs 10 lakh being smuggled in a car near Khandagiri Chhak here early this morning.

The STF also arrested three persons, including the driver of car in this connection.

Acting on a tipoff, STF with the help of Commissionerate Police conducted a raid and intercepted the car bearing registration number ODO5 K0633 on NH-16 near Khandagiri Square here. The sleuths later recovered 1.35 quintals of the contraband item from the vehicle and nabbed three of its occupants.

The accused trio-Prasanta Majhi, Sujay Majhi and Prasanta Gamango (driver), was arrested under Sections 20 (b), (ii), (C) and 29 of NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway.

“During preliminary investigation, it was found that the accused had procured the cannabis from Mohana area of Gajapati district and were transporting the same to Kolkata,” said the STF.
