IT raids on: Heaps of torn currency notes found dumped behind Odisha distillery

Bhubaneswar: Huge quantities of torn currency notes, all in Rs 500 denomination, were found dumped near the Boudh Distillery Private Limited (BDPL) in Odisha today amid the ongoing raid by the Income Tax (IT) department.

Officials of the IT department have been conducting raids on BDPL, one of the major distilleries in Odisha, for the last three days. However, IT department did not divulge anything regarding the raid.

The locals were taken aback when they spotted huge quantities of torn currency notes of Rs 500 denomination dumped near the boundary wall of BDPL at Titirikata under Harabhanga block in Boudh district of Odisha today morning. Several important documents were also found at the spot, sources said.

The villagers thronged the place to collect the torn notes once the news spread in the locality.

“Huge quantities of Rs 500 notes were found outside the boundary of the distillery company. All the notes were found torn in the middle. It appears that someone tried to dispose of his unaccounted money,” said a villager.

The locals have sought a thorough probe into the incident.
