Mahanga double murder: Orissa HC denies bail to six accused

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court rejected the bail applications today moved by six accused arrested in connection with the Mahanga double murder.

The court denied bail to Kailash Khatua, Malaya Barik, Bhikari Swain, Khitish Acharya, Chaitanya Sethi and Arvind Khatua who have been lodged in jail since last year.

On January 2, 2021 evening, BJP leader Kulamani Baral and uncle Dibya Singh Baral were critically injured after being attacked by some miscreants near Jankoti in Cuttack district. The BJP leader and uncle were returning home on a motorcycle when they were attacked.

The attack victim were rushed to the Mahanga Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors declared Kulamani brought dead while Dibya Singh was shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital. Dibya Singh succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the SCB hospital.

Around one month later Prafulla Biswal, one of the accused in the double murder case was found dead on road near Tangi.
