Malkangiri Airport to be inaugurated next month

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s southernmost district will get air connectivity soon as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is slated to inaugurate Malkangiri Airport in January, informed IAS officer Vineel Krishna, Special Secretary to CM.

“A dream come true. This board fills my heart with great joy. The farthest district is being connected by scheduled flights soon. Hon’ble CM will be landing at the Malkangiri airport and inaugurate in early January. What a sight that would be …,” the bureaucrat posted on X.

The functioning of the airport is expected to bring rapid economic development in the region.

The airport has been constructed on over 94.5 hectares of land at an expenditure of around Rs 33 crore.

This is the second significant connectivity project in the district after the Gurupriya bridge, which was inaugurated by the Chief Minister in 2018. The bridge has been providing road connectivity between the cut-off areas of the district (Swabhimana Anchala) and mainland.
