Man stabbed to death during wedding procession in Odisha’s Gajapati

Paralakhemundi: A man was allegedly stabbed to death during a wedding procession at Chandragiri village under Mohana police limits in Odisha’s Gajapati district, last night.

The deceased was identified as Prashant Pradhan. Police have arrested Srihari Pradhan, the accused.

As per reports, Prashant had participated in the procession, during which Srihari stabbed him with a knife and fled the spot.

The victim sustained critical injuries due to the stabbing and was rescued by locals. Prashant was rushed to the Chandragiri Community Health Centre, where he breathed his last during treatment.

Tension ran high at the spot of the incident as irate villagers set the house of the accused on fire. Furthermore, they also blocked NH-326, affecting vehicular movement.

The attack on Prashant was reportedly a fallout of previous enmity. A quarrel had ensued between the two on the day of Maha Shivratri over a game. It is being suspected that Srihari killed Prashant over the dispute.

Policemen have been deployed in the area to avoid any further untoward incident and maintain law & order.
