Naktideul College lecturer arrested for molesting girl student in Odisha’s Sambalpur

Sambalpur: A physics lecturer of Naktideul Junior College in Odisha’s Sambalpur district was arrested for allegedly molesting a girl student of the educational institution, a police official said today.

As per the complaint lodged by the 16-year-old victim of Deogarh district, accused Sanjib Kumar Dash had on December 24 asked the girl and two of her friends to clean laboratory. When her friends went outside the laboratory to dump garbage, he touched her inappropriately. The girl then left the spot due to fear. The teacher also molested her during the next several days.

The victim initially couldn’t muster the courage to bring the incident to fore. Later, she informed the principal of the college about the incident in writing on February 2. However, the principal allegedly didn’t take any action in this regard and tried to settle the matter.

She then narrated the ordeal to her family members and lodged a complaint against the lecturer at the Naktideul police station.

On the basis of the complaint, a case was registered against the accused under Sections 341 and 354-A of the IPC, and Section 10 of the POCSO Act. He was arrested and produced before a local court.
