Notorious criminal injured in police encounter in Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack: A notorious criminal sustained bullet injuries in a police encounter in Salepur area of Odisha’s Cuttack district, last night.

The criminal, identified as Sushant Sahu alias Lipu, has been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment. His condition was stated to be stable.

According to reports, Lipu and his associate were plotting a loot, during which a police team, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid at Asureswar playground.

On realizing about the arrival of the cops, Lipu opened fire two rounds of bullets at them in order to flee the place. As the cops retaliated with firing, he sustained bullet injuries to his left leg. However, his associate managed to escape.

During the encounter, some police personnel sustained minor injuries. Cops have seized a mobile phone, a firearm, and other items from the criminal.

Police said more than 50 criminal cases are pending against Lipu at various police stations.
