Odisha: BJD MLA Rudra Maharathy’s car attacked at Nimapara; 2 BJP supporters held

Bhubaneswar: Some supporters of BJP allegedly attacked the vehicle of BJD leader and Pipli MLA Rudra Pratap Maharathy at Nimapara in Odisha’s Puri district today.

The incident took place while Maharathy, who has been appointed as an election coordinator of BJD for Nimapara Assembly constituency, was returning home after attending a party meeting at Tampalo in the evening.

Some BJP supporters attacked Maharathy’s car near Terundia panchayat under Nimapara constituency. However, the Pipli legislator and his driver managed to escape without any injury.

A complaint in this regard was lodged with Nimapara police. The cops have arrested two BJP workers in connection with the incident.

“Terundia is the native place of Pravati Parida, the BJP candidate for Nimapara seat. The supporters of BJP attacked my car in a planned manner. We have informed the incident to police,” said the Pipli MLA.

The BJD alleged that the attack on Maharathy’s car was carried out at the behest of Parida and Nimapara MLA Samir Ranjan Dash, who recently joined the BJP after resigning from the ruling party in Odisha.

Dash resigned from the BJD after he was denied a ticket to fight the 2024 Assembly polls in the state.
