Odisha: BJD revokes expulsion of Damodar Rout

Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the 2024 elections, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today revoked the expulsion of senior politician Dr Damodar Rout with immediate effect.

The former minister and seven-time MLA Dr. Rout was expelled from the BJD in 2018 for anti-party activities. He was under fire for making allegations of financial misappropriation of Rs 30 crore in Omfed, Rs 700 crore scam in Odisha State Cooperative Bank and Rs 100 crore fraud in sapling plantation under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

In December 2017, he was sacked from the State Council of Ministers in Naveen Patnaik’s Cabinet and as BJD Vice-President for his remarks against the Brahmin community at a function in Malkangiri.
