Odisha: Engagement of ‘bouncers’ at Bars in Twin City banned

Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar-Cuttack today promulgated an order imposing a ban on the engagement of ‘bouncers’ at Bars in the twin cities. The Commissioner of Police Sanjeeb Kumar Panda sought compliance from the Bar owners in this regard within the next two months.

Ban was clamped vide promulgation order U/s 144 of the CrPC, an official communiqué said.

It has come to notice that many Bars in the Commissionerate Police jurisdiction have employed private persons as security personnel who are informally called bouncers. In recent months some criminal cases have been registered against many such private security personnel. It is apprehended that there is every probability of imminent danger from these bouncers to the life and safety of the customers resulting in a breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquility, the promulgation order mentioned.

Such unwarranted threats to the life and safety of customers as well as breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquility need to be prevented to deter the said illegal activities.

Notably, the written notification was issued for strict compliance by Bar owners under Twin City urban police districts (UPDs) within two months from the date of publication of the order.
