Odisha Floods: Subarnarekha swells as river flows above danger level in Balasore

Bhubaneswar: Flood situation in Odisha’s Balasore district is likely to worsen as water level of Subarnarekha river rose significantly after last evening.

As per the data of the Central Water Commission (CWC), the water level of Subarnarekha at Rajghat in the district was 11.90 meters at 9 AM against danger level of 10.36 meters. As per CWC’s forecast, the water level may go down to 11.50 meters at around 9 PM today.

Similarly, Jalka river was flowing at 6.54 meters at Mathani in the district at 9 AM against the danger level of 5.50 meters.

Four blocks of Balasore– Baliapal, Bhograi, Jaleswar and Basta– are expected to be affected by the flood. Excess water has inundated several low-lying areas of Bhograi and Baliapal blocks.

Around 25 villages in Baliapal block have been marooned by the flood. On the other hand, flood water was flowing 3 feet above road near Gadapola snapping road communication between Baliapal and Kamarda in the district.
