Odisha: Girl’s hand gets severed in motorcycle wheel, dog flees with it

Bhubaneswar: In a heart-wrenching incident, the right hand of a 12-year-old girl was severed in the wheel of a moving motorcycle on NH-26 near Utkela under Kesinga police limits in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Thursday while a dog fled with the body part.

The victim, identified as Anjali Sahu of Mangalpur village under Jaipatna police limits, was travelling on the two-wheeler with her father, during which her scarf became entangled in the rear wheel of the motorcycle.

She attempted to free the scarf without telling her father to stop the vehicle. Unfortunately, it led to her hand being caught in the spinning wheel, resulting in its severance.

However, the tragedy was far from over. As her father halted the motorcycle to retrieve the severed hand, a stray dog appeared suddenly and ran off with it in its mouth.

The victim’s family rushed her to Bhawanipatna Hospital for treatment. She was later shifted to VIMSAR in Burla for better treatment due to severe blood loss.
