Odisha man out on bail arrested again for ‘raping’ minor girl

Balasore: A rape accused, who was released on bail recently, was arrested again for allegedly raping one more girl in Odisha’s Balasore district.

The accused has been identified as Sanjeev Jena (24), a resident of Gambharia village under Singla police limits in Balasore district.

The incident occurred on Dec 16 in Balasore where a minor girl was waiting to head for Kasafal. The youth allegedly raped her on pretext of offering lift on his motorcycle to her home.

According to reports, the girl accepted the youth’s offer and preferred to go to her home on his motorcycle. On the way, Sanjeev diverted the two-wheeler towards an unpaved road in front of Rupsa Police Station. When the girl raised suspicion on the youth’s intention, the latter tried to convince her describing the unfamiliar route as a ‘shortcut’ to her destination.

Later, the youth parked the vehicle at an isolated paddy field and allegedly outraged her modesty. While the victim was crying at a shop located on a main road following the incident, the Rupsa police took her to the Police Station and lodged a complaint.

Based on the allegation and CCTV footage, police nabbed the accused on Wednesday following raid. Later, he was forwarded to a local court.

Reports said that the accused had withdrawn cash from an ATM kiosk while he was on way with the minor girl in Balasore.

Currently, Sanjeev, who is already married and has a son, was out on a bail. He had been sentenced to seven years in prison in a rape case in Morada area in Mayurbhanj district.
