Odisha: Newly-married woman ends life by jumping from 2-storey building at Jeypore; Ex-lover detained

Bhubaneswar: A newly-married woman reportedly ended her life by jumping from the roof of a two-storey building at Jeypore town in Odisha today.

The deceased has been identified as U. Harika of Kellasahi at Jeypore. The police have detained the woman’s ex-lover for questioning in connection with the incident.

According to sources, the woman had developed a relationship with a man from Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh while pursuing B.Ed degree in the neighbouring state a few years ago.

However, the woman’s parents had married her off to another man in Andhra Pradesh around one and a half months ago.

However, the woman’s ex-lover was allegedly trying his best to stay in touch with her even after her marriage.

The woman’s ex-lover reportedly came to Jeypore when the woman visited her parents’ house yesterday.

The woman reportedly jumped from their two-storey building at Kellasahi today morning. She was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in a critical condition. However, she was declared dead on arrival by the doctor.

Soon after the woman’s death, her parents lodged a complaint with Jeypore Town police on allegations that she was being blackmailed by her ex-lover.

On the basis of the complaint, police registered a case and detained the woman’s ex-lover for questioning in connection with the incident.
