IPL Season 16 to be streamed in Odia, Cuttack’s Loria Mohanty to do commentary

With a 12-year long career in anchoring, this will be the first of its kind opportunity for her.

Bhubaneswar: In what could be one of the most exhilarating experiences for cricket lovers across the State, season 16 of the Indian Premiere League, in a first, will now also be conducted in Odia in the current year. While anchor Loria Mohanty from Cuttack district in Odisha will host the ‘Match Centre Live’ before the match, commentator Nishant Majithia will head the IPL Odia feed as the producer. Mohanty, a resident of Trisulia in Cuttack, was selected after three rounds of audition which was held last month and will be heading for Mumbai today. With a 12-year long career in anchoring, this will be the first of its kind opportunity for her.

The half an hour long show will comprise panel discussions, cricket commentary and graphics, all of which will be condcuted in Odia and have guests from the State including Debashish Mohanty, Basant Mohanty and Biplab Samantray.

Along with it, the beginning, middle and end of the innings will be streamed in the native language.

Sharing the excitement on her selection, Mohanty said she has her family to thank for the support and constant encouragement. “It was a matter of immense pride and joy for me when I learnt that for the first time, IPL’s season 16 will be held in Odia and I have been selected to host it. In this digital era, people here will now be able to watch everything from panel discussions to commentary to graphics in Odia and also support their favourite team. I had to update my knowledge on cricket and hone my diction in Odia, screen presence, etc. My family is very excited,” she said while attributing her selection to support from her parents, in-laws and husband Sumit Dhawan. Mohanty also said she was first approached by Majithia for the opportunity and her selection was a month-long process.

IPL season 16, which will start from March 31, will be streaming in 12 regional languages on Jio Cinema app and will see participation of 10 teams.
