Odisha’s Sukumar Mishra appointed as Director of IIT-Dhanbad

Bhubaneswar: Prof. (Dr.) Sukumar Mishra from Odisha has been appointed as the Director of IIT-Dhanbad.

The Union Ministry of Education on Thursday appointed new directors to six IITs. Manindra Agrawal, Sukumar Mishra, Avinash Agarwal, Devendra Jalihal, Dhirendra S Katti and Amit Patra were given charge as directors at IIT-Kanpur, IIT-Dhanbad, IIT-Jodhpur, IIT-Guwahati, IIT-Goa and IIT-BHU, respectively.

Mishra was earlier a professor in the electrical engineering department at IIT-Delhi.

He received his M.Tech and Phd in Electrical Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Rourkela in 1992 and 2000, respectively.

Mishra has won many accolades such as Young Scientist award (1999) by Orissa Bigyan Academy, INSA medal for young scientist (2002), INAE young engineer award (2002), INAE silver jubilee young engineer award (2012), The Samanta Chandra Shekhar award (2016), Bimal Bose award (2019) and NASI-Reliance Platinum Jubilee award (2019), National Mission Innovation Championship award (2019), INAE Outstanding Teachers award (2021), Innovation leadership award (2023) and Prof. K.L. Chopra applied research award (2023).

Mishra’s research expertise lies in the field of Power Systems, Power Quality Studies, Renewable Energy and Smart Grid.
