Over 1 kg brown sugar seized near Ansupa Lake in Odisha; 2 arrested

Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch yesterday seized more than one kg brown sugar near Ansupa Lake in Cuttack district and arrested two persons in this connection.

According to official sources, the STF team, acting on the basis of intelligence input regarding illegal possession of drugs, conducted a raid with the help of Cuttack District Police near Ansupa Lake under Banki police limits, last evening.

Police apprehended two drug peddlers namely Jumesh Kumar Sahoo of Angul and Hemant Kumar Pradhan of Cuttack district.

During search, brown sugar weighing 1.35 kg, a car and other incriminating materials were recovered and seized from their possession. They could not produce any valid authority in support of possession of such contraband materials, for which the accused persons were arrested.

A case under section 21(c)/29 of NDPS Act 1985 was registered while further probe is underway.
