Peak flow of flood water in 3 Odisha districts after midnight: SRC

Bhubaneswar: Flow of flood water will reach its peak in Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Puri districts after midnight, informed Odisha Special Relief Commissioner PK Jena today.

Peak flow of flood water is occurring currently at Mundali, which would continue for around 8-9 hours, the official said during a press brief here this evening.

Breach has been reported at two places in Mahanadi river system– one in Makara river in Puri district and another at Rajua Raiki in Khordha district, the SRC said.

As per latest data, 1366 villages and 9 ULBs of 10 districts have been affected due to the flood while 237 villages were marooned. Around 90 free kitchens are operational to provide food to 26,000-27,000 affected people, he said.

Around 2 lakh people have been affected due to the flood. As per preliminary data, as many as 707 houses were damaged. The figure is likely to rise, said Jena.

As per latest report, around 24,000 hectares of farmland have been affected. The figure is also likely to go up, he added.
