Police to be deployed at temples along ‘Badadanda’ in Puri

Puri: Hours after cash and valuables were stolen from the Shree Mausima Mandira, the Puri Police today decided to deploy police personnel at all the temples along the ‘Badadanda’ (Grand Road).

Puri SP Kanwar Vishal Singh reviewed the security measures at all the temples along the ‘Badadanda’ and informed about the decision on police deployment.

Earlier in the day, Puri King Gajapati Dibya Singha Deb demanded the Puri District Administration to ensure safety and security of temples in Puri town.

“I am surprised to learn about the incident of theft last night at Shree Mausima Mandira on Puri Bada Danda. The District and Police Administration must take all steps to nab the culprits and work out a comprehensive and effective strategy to ensure safety and security of all places of worship in Most Holy Shreekshetra,” said the Puri King.

Meanwhile, the Puri SP informed one person was detained by Kumbharapada police for questioning. This apart, two teams have been formed to probe the matter.

Last night some unidentified miscreants allegedly looted Rs 30,000 and gold ornaments of the deities from the Mausima Mandira temple.

The lock of the temple’s gate and donation box were found broken this morning, following which the loot incident came to light.
