Revengeful over pet goat’s death, woman ‘kills’ over 40 animals in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur

Jagatsinghpur: In a disturbing incident, a woman allegedly killed more than 40 animals after being revengeful over her pet goat’s death at Bakharpur village under Tirtol police limits in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district, a report said.

As per allegations, the woman, identified as 45-year-old Dukhi Barik, intentionally poisoned around 25 crows, 20 dogs, and three cats as an act of revenge for the death of her pet goat on Tuesday.

An FIR has been lodged against Barik in connection with this incident.

Reportedly, on Monday, a stray dog attacked Barik’s goat, resulting in its demise. Overwhelmed by grief, Barik sought revenge by contaminating food with poison and distributing it among the animals in the locality.

Tragically, this led to the deaths of the animals. On Tuesday morning, the carcasses of these animals were found scattered across Chatra Math, Bakharpur, Amirpur, and other nearby areas.

Villagers then filed a complaint with the Tirtol police, demanding action against Barik.

“The deceased animals have been sent for postmortem at the local veterinary hospital to determine the precise cause of death. Currently, no arrests have been made,” a police official said.
